Dr. Jef Snoeys holds a doctorate degree from the reputed University of Bergen (Norway). Jef conducted explosion research at Gexcon (Norway), Ineris (France), Fike (USA, Belgium) and graduated with his thesis on Dust Explosion Research. Jef Snoeys has been with Fike Corporation since 1993 and is currently the Director of the Fike Explosion Protection Technology Group and the Fike Academy. In this role, Jef serves as the chief scientist to conduct applied research, maintain currency with competitive technology and other technology issues impacting explosion protection. Fike maintains a flow lab, an explosion test lab and remote explosion research testsite. Based out of Fike's European office in Herentals, Belgium, Jef is an active working member of European Standardization Committee CEN TC 305, and an active participant on multiple other committees such as North American committees NFPA 68 and NFPA 69. He has chaired several standardization committees in the creation, revision, and maintenance of local and global regulatory standards. Jef has coordinated research activities and equipment qualification tests at several international test sites, including Ineris (France), Gexcon (Norway), FSA (Germany), HSL (UK) and Fike (USA). As official Fike delegate, Jef participated in several EU funded projects such as 1. DESC (2005) - the development of a computer code to simulate the course and effects of dust explosions. Project partners: EU, Gexcon, Fike, HSL, TNO, Inburex, FSA, Fraunhofer-ICT, Øresund Safety Advisors, Technical Universities of Delft and Warsaw. 2. HYSEA (2014) – H2020 project on Improving Hydrogen Safety for Energy Applications through pre-normative research on vented deflagrations. Project partners: EU, Gexcon, The University of Warwick, Università di Pisa, Fike, Impetus , University of Science and Technology of China, Hefei University of Technology He has conducted many training courses and has lectured extensively on the subject of dust explosion protection. He lectures yearly at the CPD Faculty of Engineering in Leeds on gas, vapour and dust Explosion Hazards, protection, mitigation and prediction. Jef has published and co-authored multiple research papers. He holds several patents on explosion protection solutions.
